In Residence: Proprietors – Hudson, NY

Proprietors is a woman-run, collective shop featuring vintage apparel and handmade goods in Hudson, NY. I’m pleased to share that as their current artist in residence, a curated selection of my recent drawings, paintings, and collages are on display and available for purchase through mid-October. These pieces fit beautifully into such a stylish space – all the way down to coordinating with the wooden floor that is painted pink!

To see a full list of available works, please send an email and I’ll connect you with the Proprietors team. They are also responsive via their Instagram profile. Pieces range from $70 to $900, inclusive of wooden frames shown.

Layers of Time

Layers of Time” opens today at Upstream Gallery, and will remain on view through July 25. Three of my pieces are part of the show, including the drawing pictured here. The exhibition title feels particularly apt, not just to my work, but to the way we’ve been moving through the past year and a half… (What is time?!)

Hastings-on-Hudson is a quick train ride or drive out of the city if you’re in New York and looking for an excursion up the Hudson Valley. I took advantage of my drive up to drop off the artwork by hiking at Blauvelt State Park that afternoon as well; it was refreshing to be surrounded by so much green! Upstream Gallery is an artist-run space; I met a couple of the members and they were very friendly and welcoming.

Take It or Lose It

My drawing Still is currently available as part of Collar Work’s online exhibition “Take It or Lose It” during its annual fundraiser (through July 17, 2021). All of the featured artworks are $500 and under and support both the exhibiting artists and the mission of Collar Works:

“Collar Works is a non-profit art space located at 621 River St. in Troy, NY dedicated to supporting emerging and underrepresented artists, working in any media, exhibiting challenging and culturally relevant contemporary artworks. Expanding the current art vernacular in New York’s capital region, Collar Works provides a venue for community dialogue focused on serious, provocative and spirited artworks.”

This drawing, finished in early 2020, is a predecessor of the colored pencil drawings I made this past winter. I enjoy the process of using line to create fields of color that fill a page; these pieces blur the lines between “painting thinking” (form and color relationships) and “drawing thinking” (line and mark-making) for me. Click on the photo below to read more, or perhaps bring it home for yourself!

Ps. One of the other featured artists is Jane Kang Lawrence, who co-curated several of my drawings into the flat file program at PeepSpace.
