Exhibition Announcement: Circling In Situ

We are thrilled to announce Circling Studios’ first exhibition! Taking place as part of our residency at Delight Factory this July, Circling In Situ is an interdisciplinary art exhibition of work from past Circling featured artists:

🔹Mona Saeed Kamal
🔹Krystiana Kosobucki-Howell
🔹Marilyn Mitchell
🔹Natalie Preston
🔹Lynnette Therese Sauer
🔹Nicholas Thomson
🔹Veronica Velasquez
🔹Sara J. Winston

Circling In Situ contextualizes the work of New York area artists within their daily life, home, and logistical concerns. One artist makes photographs in spare moments while receiving medical treatment, another turns his neighborhood into a painting studio; a third uses found objects from a family home to connect local and familial history with global struggle.

There are as many ways to be an artist and sustain creative practice as there are people, and this collection of works showcases a diversity of not just subject matter and medium, but of the ways that the work comes into being. True to Circling’s ethos, a companion zine makes visible part of the constellation of objects, practices, and relationships that make these creations possible. While each artist works in their own medium and manner, this exhibition brings them together to highlight how the creative practice fits into the artist’s life.

🔹Opening Reception: Thursday, July 9, 6-9pm — RSVP (free; refreshments provided)
🔹Closing Reception: Friday, July 31, 7-10pm — RSVP (free; refreshments provided)

Circling Studios in Residence at Delight Factory, Brooklyn

From Delight Factory:

✨🚀✨ ARTIST RESIDENCY ANNOUNCEMENT: It’s a Circling Summer! ✨☀️✨

We’re thrilled to announce the Artist Residency of Circling with an exhibition and programs all through July at Delight Factory!

Circling is a publication, artist collective, and event studio charting the rhythms of the artist’s life. Founded by Lynnette Therese Sauer and Krystiana Kosobucki-Howell and inspired by years of conversation about the creative process, Circling Studios provides opportunities for artists to share not just the work they make but what makes it possible.

Through longform artist interviews, intimate workshops and events, and supportive professional development, Circling excavates the physical, financial, spiritual, and relational scaffolding that supports each artist’s practice.

During their month-long residency at Delight Factory, Krystiana and Lynnette curate Circling Studios’ first exhibition highlighting the work of featured artists, entitled Circling in Situ. True to Circling’s ethos, this exhibition attempts to contextualize the finished artwork in the context of the artist’s daily life.

We look forward to seeing you in July!

You’re Invited: Art x Care, a symposium by Circling Studios

This fall, I’m excited to dedicate more time to independent projects that are important to me. One such event is Art x Care, a symposium I’m co-hosting as part of my work on Circling, which will take place in three weeks on October 25.

✳️ We’re discussing the question: How do our needs, relationships, and caregiving responsibilities complicate and contribute to artistic practice? ✳️

This half-day event brings together a wonderful lineup of speakers with experience navigating caregiving alongside work in visual art, theater, academia, healthcare, and community organizing. Come together for a morning of connection, reflection, and practical insights for creating more sustainable systems of care, conceived for and by artists.

Please consider joining us in Brooklyn on the 25th, or sharing this with the artist / arts worker / creative in your life! I’d love to see you there, or share more about this project – let me know if you have any questions.

✳️ When: Saturday, October 25
✳️ Where: Delight Factory, Brooklyn
✳️ Tickets: Pay-what-you-can sliding scale available. Learn more and register here.
