sketchbook year 🌷 22-28

Week #4: broke out the colored pens and crayola markers.

It’s already been a month’s worth of daily drawings, and I’m noticing that drawing more frequently begets more drawing. This practice is helping me move through ideas more quickly and create several iterations of the same concept — it’s just making me see the need to keep drawing more, especially as I consider heading back into the studio to start some new larger pieces.

This year, I am making at least 365 drawings in my sketchbook and sharing seven of them weekly. Check in on Tuesdays for new posts, or look for monthly round-ups in my studio newsletter — you can subscribe here to receive those in your inbox.

A week in Santa Fe

Last November, I was invited to be an artist-in-residence at Jen Tough Gallery in Santa Fe, NM. I worked on a cycle of twelve small drawings, the most I’ve ever intentionally worked on simultaneously and as a series. In addition, it was a treat to get outside for some plein aire sketching and to visit multiple museums during my time in Santa Fe. When everything else drops away, it’s amazing how much art can be accomplished in a single week! I really enjoyed and appreciated my time and certainly hope to return to Santa Fe in the future.
